I'll still go, but less often and will just be more frugal in my purchasing and expectations. The novelty of uniqueness and cultural pride has been tainted. I was buying gifts for friends coming from Europe to show off the store and beautiful cultural items. Normally, they would wrap items with tissue, place a postcard in the bag and tie the handles with colorful straw ribbon. When I asked for at least to be given the tissue paper, I was told they don't do that anymore. When asked for 4 small items, of my many items, to be wrapped for gifts, I was given 4 white stamped paperbags. Between the 2 of us, we purchased over $450 of iyems and gifts. This time, I took a friend from out of town on our way to the airport. I live in north county, but often make a day trip south simply to shop here. This last visit was, however, a disappointment. Have been supporting this shop for years-since it opened, even through Covid I kept shopping to help save our favorite locals. Highly recommend checking it out if you’re visiting San Diego! I’ve heard from local friends that on weekends the trail can get crowded and the wait time to get a photo on potato chip rock can be 30+ minutes. There were 4 other groups already there taking photos so we had to wait a little while, but it wasn’t too bad. We started the hike around 9am on a Monday. I highly recommend wearing a hat/sunscreen as there’s not a lot of shade on the trail. It’s challenging but doable, especially if you go slow. The path was almost completely paved and VERY steep. The back way is about 4 miles round trip, as opposed to 7.3 miles round trip if you start from Lake Poway. There was plenty of parallel parking on highway 67 on a Monday morning. We went up the back way (address is 16310 CA-67, Ramona, CA 92065). If you visit San Diego, definitely check out this hike! The view at the top of Mt Woodson alone is worth the effort, but potato chip rock is super unique + an awesome photo opportunity. Wear some comfy shoes since there’s a lot of walking involved. We went on a Sunday so it was rather busy and parking was pretty hard to find. They had a food truck, a popcorn stand, a lemonade stand just in case you wanted to grab a snack or lunch there. You cannot just walk through the rows of flowers You have to wait in line but there’s lots of opportunities even if it’s busy. Its cool because they have it set up where you can take really good photos, with props, benches so you don’t have people right next to you in your photos. They have a few activities for the kiddos like a maze, tractor ride, gem mining. The fields are open Mar through early May. It’s about $25 for each adult, $22 plus a $2.95 service charge. You have to buy tickets online for a specific time slot. Located in Carlsbad, I’ve always seen it off the freeway and finally decided to go with the family. You should always go outside to stop and smell the flowers.
